The festive season is finally here and I am sooo over the moon ’cause I couldn’t wait any longer for some good old jolly mood, warm Yankee candles’ aroma and Christmas songs lingering around everywhere. And while Christmas parties are about to commence, I feel no holiday is 100% complete without some makeup sparkle – let’s be honest, waiting for December to come round and be allowed to take out all of those super glittery eyeshadows, highlighters and nail varnishes is a classic. It is in this spirit thus, that today’s post is gonna be all about the festive glow, so here we go with my review of the Kiko Smart Cult Eyeshadow Palette (nr 02 – Shocking Sparkle Shades)!
KIKO SMART CULT EYESHADOW PALETTE REVIEW
First things first, at the price of €16.95, this palette comes in two different sets of shades: n0 01 – Matte Revolution and no 02 – Shocking Sparkle Shades and, as per their names, the first only includes a selection of 12 matte browns, blue/greys and purples, while the second is all about slightly less bright but super sparkly colours. Personally, I have no doubt when saying that Shocking Sparkles Shades rocks it much more than Matte Revolution, cause a) it’s Christmas and it’s time for a detour from routine, and b) Matte Revolution includes quite a few colours such as turquoise, bright purple and violet which I feel most people wouldn’t normally wear unless they were attending a 90’s party. So, straight away, I’m definitely team Shocking Sparkle Shades, reason why I’ve only bought this rather than both.
Getting down to the real review, I am pretty satisfied with how the shades survive the 8 am – 10 pm grind, even when it comes to the less pigmented colours. Time is king in the morning, so I hardly ever apply an eye primer and still, when I look into the mirror at night, the eyeshadow is still there. Yes, it does fade away a little bit but nothing too dramatic in my opinion and nothing you couldn’t solve with a good, firm primer. So, while I wouldn’t probably choose a 100% Shocking Sparkle Shades make up if I were to attend an important event (I would probably use some more high-end products, at least for the base), I would certainly leave the wow-effect all for this palette.
All the shades are pretty pigmented and blend quite well which is a good surprise to me as highly glittery products usually don’t come around as flawless in this sense. In fact, just no 01 and no 09 are less bold when applied and the result looks more like a glitter powder than a real, pigmented eyeshadow. However, I still love to use them when I want a glowy but not too-in-your-face makeup. Also, none of these (except no 01 and 09) is too powdery and glitters DO NOT fall all over the face. Forget those horrible eyeshadows with glitters sticking all over your cheeks, if anything here you only require a face brush stroke and the issue is solved. So well done Kiko!
Finally, talking colours, I admit I would have probably preferred some more browns in the scheme – say they’d replaced the purple and blue with something more neutral, the palette would have been perfect. In fact, when purchasing a palette I always think about the real use I can do with it and look for something I can happily use both at home and when travelling. So, for example, a super bright colour scheme might be beautiful to see, but if it lacks the basics then I wouldn’t probably choose it for anything travel or work related, which halves the chance I’m gonna fall in love with it at all. Now, this isn’t the case with Kiko Smart Cult Eyeshadow Palette, however I do think a wise colour planning always needs to include nudes and blacks, as shimmer/glittery/crazy these might be.
All in all, I quite like this product and, for the price it comes for (€16.95), I think you get a good quality selection and a good option if you want to jump out of your routine without spending a fortune. And in fact, I plan to give good use throughout the festive season to sparkle up my December!
All right guys, I hope you enjoyed my review of the Kiko Smart Cult Eyeshadow palette – wishing you now the happiest holidays ever and I’ll see you in 2019!
